19th Century Chinese Market Painted Enamel Pocket Watch

 

Made circa 1895 in Switzerland, the gold openface case, 32.5mm, the back with polychrome enamel painted flowers against a pale pink guilloché enamel ground, specially made for the Chinese market. Pearl-set bezels and bow, milled band, hinged glazed cuvette, inside back with Chinese signature“Mae-Kee”, numbered and with Swiss gold mark.


White enamel dial, Roman numerals, gold spade hands, center seconds, signed H. Müller, Shanghai Sole Agent.

Gilded highly decoratively engraved Chinese caliber, cylinder escapement, plain flat three-arm brass balance, standing barrel.
