Made circa late 18th century, a Dutch mantel clock.

Inventory number: C1809014

The bell-top case with floral mounts, the brass dial painted with four animated figures, silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals and Arabic minutes. Date aperture at 6 o’clock, moon phase and the age of moon at 12 o’clock, month aperture with celestial figures at 8 o’clock, day aperture with the celestial figure at 4 o’clock. Tune selection lever to the right of the dial, left subsidiary dial for choosing Strike/Silent, right subsidiary dial for choosing Chime/Not Chime.

A three-train movement with two gut fusee and one chain fusee, verge escapement, playing 12 songs on 16 bells via 28 hammers, striking the hour and quarter-hour on a smaller bell, the half-hour and third quarter-hour on a large bell.

A typical Dutch striking way, because it will strike the forthcoming hour on the half-hour. For example, when it’s 6:30, it will strike 7 times to let people know it’s almost 7 o’clock.
