Brand History
Urwerk is an independent Swiss watchmaker launched in 1997 with one overriding aim: to follow nobody but to create their own path in pushing the boundaries of Haute Horlogerie ever further, founded by watchmaker Felix Baumgartner and designer Martin Frei, they presented their first timepiece with AHCI at Baselworld the same year. The name “Urwerk” is taken from the Sumerian city of Ur, whose inhabitants were the first to use giant sundials to measure time over six millennia ago, and the German “werk,” meaning “work” or “creation.” It’s also a play on the German word for “clockwork.”
