19th Century Rococo Style Carriage Clock

Made in France circa 1880, signed Lucien a Paris. Finely cast and chiseled gilt brass and plated silver case, inlaid with three large size rectangle Lapis Lazuli on the top and two sides. Richly adorned with flowers and scrolls throughout the case, canted scrolled corners and shaped cornices are decorated with Classical figures Cupid, a gorgeous Rococo-style clock. Beautifully engraved dial with Roman numerals, 8-day movement with platform lever escapement, strikes the hour and half hour on a bell.


Functions: Hours, minutes, hour and half-hour striking.

t is a deep blue opaque gemstone often used in decorating timepieces and jewelry, a rock that contains the minerals lazurite, calcite, and hauynite. It was a favorite stone for ancient emperors. Today, mines in northeast Afghanistan are still the major source of lapis lazuli.
