Made circa 1889 in Waldenburg, Switzerland, signed Gedeon Thommen. 52 mm diameter, 935 silver case pocket watch. Engine-turned case, white enamel dial, patented digital display aperture in the center, the single window above for the hours, and the double window below for the minutes. Small seconds at 6 o'clock.
18'' ½ gilt brass movement, lever escapement, bimetallic compensated balance, blued steel flat balance spring, polished steel index-regulator.
Movement with hours and minutes displayed in instantaneous jumping numerals, based on U.S. Patent No. 347 139 for the invention granted on August 10, 1886, to Gedeon Thommen (1831-1890), watchmaker at Waldenburg near Basel, Switzerland.
Digital display refers to displaying the time by means of numbers instead of hands.
