Chronometer

A chronometer is a specific mechanical timepiece that has been tested and certified to meet certain precision standards, by using detent escapement, it can keep time to within 1 or 2 seconds per day. A detent escapement is a detached escapement that allows the balance wheel to swing undisturbed during most of its cycle, except for the brief impulse period. Compared with the common lever escapement, it just gives one impulse per second. Since the driving escapement wheel tooth moves almost parallel to the pallet and in one direction only, the escapement has little friction and need no oiling, which makes it to be considered as the most accurate escapement for the balance wheel timepieces.
