Made in 2000, limited edition of 300 pieces. 44mm, titanium case with manual-winding OP II caliber, 17 jewels, approximately 56 hours power reserve, 21,600 vph. Engraved on the back with a drawing of the ship Amerigo Vespucci and the words Amerigo Vespucci.
Panerai made this piece honoring Amerigo Vespucci, who was an Italian explorer, financier, navigator, and cartographer. Vespucci sailed for Portugal around 1501–1502 and demonstrated that Brazil and the West Indies were not Asia's eastern outskirts (as initially conjectured from Columbus' voyages) but a separate, unexplored landmass colloquially known as the New World. In 1507, the new continent was named America after the Latin version of Vespucci's first name.
Today the name “Amerigo Vespucci” is carried around the world by the fantastic three-masted sailing ship of the Italian Navy: it is a famous school ship for the training of the official students of the Naval Academy of Livorno.
Functions: hours, minutes and small seconds.
