J. Ullmann & Co. Quarter Repeating and Automata Pocket Watch

Made in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, circa 1900, signed J. Ullmann & Co., 57mm, 14K red gold hunter case, No. 171725, the cover with a monogram, engine-turned case back. Guilloché enamel center dial, Roman numerals, and small seconds. Gold cuvette with engravings, enamel dial with a mythological scene, to the left is Mercury holding his caduceus, to the right is Father Time holding a harvesting scythe.


 21''', frosted gilt movement, 28 jewels, bi-metallic compensation balance, quarter repeating on two steel gongs via two steel hammers. Quarter repeating and automaton mechanism activated by the slide in the band.

 

On loan from the private collection of Mr. Yeung Sau Wong.

 

Jacques Ullmann & Co. of La Chaux-de-Fonds were registered in 1896, and traded in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tianjin of China, they purchased the Bovet in 1918, and went out of business in 1932.
